Don't Wait Too Long ...

The Hidden Costs of Delaying Treatment

Missing teeth are not just a cosmetic problem. Teeth and tooth roots play an important role in telling your body to replenish the bone in your jaw. Without that stimulation, you will almost immediately start to lose bone. As the jawbone deteriorates, you may face a cascade of new problems:

  • More tooth loss as your jawbone recedes
  • Uneven wear as teeth shift and your bite changes
  • Aging facial features as your jawbone shrinks and your cheeks lose their underlying support

Has Bone Loss Prevented You from Getting Implant Dentures? All-on-4 May Be the Solution You're Looking For

Have you been told that you lack enough bone density to qualify for implant-supported dentures? A special dental implant technique known as All-on-4® could change that.

Dental implants placed using the All-on-4 technique do not require as much bone density as traditional implant-supported dentures. And, surprisingly, the procedure is both faster and more affordable for most patients.

All-on-4 is an advanced dentistry technique where implants are placed at an angle, which allows them to take advantage of the remaining bone using just four implants. Fewer implants make the procedure less invasive and more cost-effective than other techniques.

In most cases, we can place your restoration on the same day so you can start smiling immediately.

Dental Implant Candidacy

You may be a good candidate for dental implants if you:

Have Missing Teeth or Require Extractions

Even a single missing tooth can cause oral health issues such as further tooth loss and jawbone deterioration. Dental implants provide numerous benefits for patients missing one, several, or even all of their teeth.

Are in Good Oral Health

You must be free of oral health issues such as tooth decay and gum disease before treatment begins. This ensures a healthy foundation for your implants and restoration and minimizes the risk of issues like implant failure.

Do Not Use Tobacco Products

Tobacco use is linked to an increased risk of oral health issues, including dental implant failure. It is best to stop using all tobacco products before your dental implant placement to minimize these risks.

Understanding the Dental Implant Process

Timelines vary depending on your treatment plan. Here, we outline treatment for a traditional dental implant.
We use 3-D computed tomography and surgical guides when placing implants to ensure beautiful, long-lasting results.

Consultation

Using 3-D CT scanning technology, Dr. Starr will assess the internal structures of your mouth to help determine candidacy. If implants are an appropriate treatment for you, he will explain your options and use Nobel Biocare software to outline a treatment plan that will restore your smile.

Preparation

If needed, Dr. Starr will perform the necessary preparatory procedures to create the proper foundation for your implants. This could include extracting damaged teeth or performing a bone graft or sinus lift. While these steps will add time to your treatment, they set the stage for a stable implant.

Implant Placement

Dr. Starr will numb the site and, if desired, administer sedation for a deeper sense of relaxation. Then, using a surgical guide to ensure precise positioning, he will place the titanium post into the jaw so that bone can naturally grow around it. This step is called osseointegration, and it is essential to the success of your dental implant treatment.

Healing Phase

It takes from three to six months for the bone to fuse with the implant. We will coordinate with your general dentist to provide functional, natural-looking temporaries during this time.

Abutment Placement

Once the dental implant is firmly fused in place, a connector piece called an abutment is added. The abutment will be used to securely attach the implant to your restoration. We will wait about two weeks to allow the gums to grow around the abutment before placing the restoration.

Your Restoration

Your dentist will work closely with Dr. Starr to provide the restoration and attach it to your dental implant. After that, you can walk out the door and greet the world with a smile that looks like your natural teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants

Q. Does implant placement hurt?

A. No. Dr. Starr will numb the area before your procedure begins to ensure you do not feel any pain. We also offer sedation dentistry options for a deeper level of comfort during your procedure.

Q. How long do dental implants last?

A. Implants are made from durable titanium and designed to last a lifetime. Your restoration will wear over time and eventually need to be replaced. However, with proper care and maintenance, your dental crown, bridge, or denture can last for up to 15 years or more.

Q. Does dental insurance cover implants?

A. Most dental insurance plans do not cover dental implants. However, they often cover parts of your dental implant treatment such as the restoration. We will verify your insurance coverage before your treatment begins so you can accurately plan and budget.

Q. How much do dental implants cost?

A. The cost of dental implant treatment will vary greatly depending on several factors such as how many implants you need, the type of restoration you require, and whether preparatory treatment is needed before implant placement. During your initial consultation at our Columbus or Starkville office, Dr. Starr will recommend a custom treatment plan based on your unique needs. We will then be able to provide you with an accurate quote.
