Laser Periodontal Therapy (LANAP)

 

After careful review and research, we are excited to announce that we have added to our armamentarium a new treatment option, the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP).  This is a patented, FDA approved periodontal surgical protocol.  The FDA clearance is the first of its kind and includes specific labeling for “cementum-mediated new periodontal ligament attached to the root surface in the absence of long junctional epithelium.”  This approach offers several advantages over standard periodontal surgery or other laser-based periodontal treatment protocols.

 

Patients for whom LANAP is appropriate will find that the procedure is much less invasive and creates much less post-surgical pain and discomfort than standard periodontal flap surgery.  In addition, post-surgical marginal recession should be significantly reduced, which is a major benefit in the maxillary anterior area. 

 

While no periodontal surgical procedure offers guaranteed results, the human clinical and histologic evidence to date suggests the LANAP procedure when used in appropriate situations can provide results that are as successful (or even more successful) than standard periodontal surgical procedures.
